Ground engineering specialist Van Elle has appointed Severfield financial controller Graeme Campbell as its new chief financial officer.
Mr Campbell will start the role and join the company’s board early next year. He will replace Paul Pearson, who announced his resignation in May and will step down from his role at the end of next month.
The company issued a profit warning in January and revised its financial outlook in June. In July, the firm’s full-year results showed its profit more than halved in the year to 30 April 2019, with a pre-tax profit of £4m for the year ended 30 April 2019 following a 2018 figure of £9.7m.
With a gap of a few months before Mr Campbell takes over in 2020, Van Elle said it has appointed a “sector-experienced” interim finance director to hand over between Mr Pearson and Mr Campbell.
Van Elle non-executive chairman Adrian Barden said: “Graeme is a high-calibre appointment with a proven track record across a range of senior finance functions including at public companies.
“This appointment follows a series of senior management changes across the business and Graeme’s significant experience will further enhance the leadership team as Mark [Cutter] and his team drive forward Van Elle’s strategy.”
Mr Campbell qualified as a chartered accountant in 2000 and has since held various financial positions including group CFO for Australian engineering company Engenco. He joined Severfield in September last year, according to his LinkedIn profile.
Last May, Van Elle appointed Balfour Beatty managing director Mark Cutler as its new chief executive to replace Jon Fenton.
This year, Mr Cutler said the firm had been impacted by market uncertainty as a result of the liquidation of Carillion and delayed contract decisions connected to Brexit.
He said there was a “general slowdown in construction activity and uncertainties around investment decisions and project starts”.
Steel specialist Severfield was down three places to 54 on this year’s CN100 list of the UK’s largest contractors.
