Kier has appointed Stuart Togwell as group commercial director.
Mr Togwell left Wates in June after a 33-year stint with the company to take up the position at Kier under new chief executive, and former Wates boss, Andrew Davies.
Mr Davies said the new commercial boss would ensure Kier was sensible when bidding for new jobs.
“We will have a disciplined approach to bidding for work, we will certainly have a disciplined approach to bidding for large projects,” the CEO said.
The company also announced this morning that Philip Cox will retire as chairman and step down from the board once a replacement for him is found.
Mr Cox joined the board on 1 July 2017 and became chairman on 31 August that year.
The company said in a statement to the stock market: “[Mr Cox] has overseen the recent appointment of a new management team and has decided that it would now be appropriate for the company to appoint a new chairman to work with the board to deliver the strategic actions announced on 17 June 2019.”
Kier revealed a £245m pre-tax loss in its results for the year ending 30 June 2019 this morning.
The company is now trying to sell its housebuilding and property development interests in order to cut debt levels and refocus the business on contracting.
