Kier has won a contract to build the £35m School of Digital Arts (SODA) for Manchester Metropolitan University.
The five-storey, 5,200 sq m building will contain teaching facilities for the university’s creative, digital, technology and business students.
The building will feature a distinctive LED light wall on its exterior to display imagery, such as students’ work.
The joint university and Greater Manchester Combined Authority-funded project is due for completion in spring 2021. Kier will start on site later this year.
The SODA building will be located on the site of the Students’ Union car park on Higher Chatham Street, and will have the capacity to teach 1,000 students per year.
Kier regional building north-west MD Peter Commins said the win continues the firm’s relationship with the university. It has previously completed 6 Great Marlborough Street, a facility to house a number of professional services teams across Manchester Met.
